Killer Whale Social Life

Killer whales also hunt in groups called pods. Most of the time pods are made up of family groups. Pod numbers can range from two or three individuals to hundreds of whales. These are called super pods. Pods are named after the female that leads them. If the female' s name is A7 then the pod is called A7 pod. Pods are broken up into groups of whales that are seen together. These are subpods. Like the the pods, subpods are named after the female that leads them.
